Last week I visited Washington DC with my wife, Gina, and our oldest son, Michael. The most memorable museum we visited was the National Archives. As I was reading the original Declaration of Independence, I read where our forefathers declared that everyone has the right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Not many people know that the first draft actually read “life, liberty, and property.” But, Thomas Jefferson felt that property ownership wasn’t a right that everyone needed to have and recognized it as inclusive in the phrase “pursuit of happiness.”
Thankfully, you and I live in a country where the land (and the home on it) can be bought, sold, and owned. American banks loan money for the purchase of a home and in many cases our government will insure the loan, thus allowing you and me to get started in home ownership. So, here’s to being happy at home, being thankful for our rights, and loving the home we own!
Congratulations to our clients & friends
